Matinee Privacy Policy

Matinee ("we," "us") is operated by Functional Development LLC. Matinee gives you
personalized movie & TV recommendations, a watchlist, and group "Movie Night"
sessions, on iPhone and Apple TV. This policy explains what we collect and why.
Information we collect
- Account information — when you sign in with Apple, Google, or
email, we receive your email address and (if provided) your name. Sign in with
Apple's "Hide My Email" relay address is stored as-is. You may set a display name.
- Your activity in the app — title ratings, your watchlist,
titles you hide, streaming services you select, your region, and Movie Night
session participation. We use this to power your recommendations.
- Apple TV pairing — a shared Apple TV stores an anonymous,
randomly generated device identifier so paired accounts' watchlists can appear
on it. This is not tied to advertising.
- Diagnostics — basic, non-identifying logs to keep the
service running.
How we use your information
- To generate and improve your recommendations.
- To sync your watchlist and profile across your devices.
- To run Movie Night group sessions.
- To operate, secure, and troubleshoot the service.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it
for third-party advertising.
Service providers & data sources
- Google Firebase / Google Cloud — authentication and hosting.
- TMDB — movie and TV metadata and images. This product uses
the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
- GroupLens / MovieLens — anonymized ratings data used to
improve the recommendation model; this is not your personal data.
Data retention & deletion
We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account and
associated data at any time — see
our account deletion page or the in-app Profile
screen. Deleting your account removes your profile, ratings, and watchlist.
Children
Matinee is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect
personal information from them.
Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS and stored on managed cloud
infrastructure with access controls.
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by the "Last
updated" date above.
